About the role
The Bermuda Monetary Authority is seeking a senior professional to lead the supervision of insurance intermediaries. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Principal will direct a multidisciplinary team responsible for risk‑based prudential and conduct oversight of managers, brokers, agents and other registrants under the Insurance Act 1978.
Key responsibilities
- Lead on‑site and off‑site supervision of insurance intermediaries, setting priorities and annual supervisory plans.
- Conduct risk‑based analysis to determine the scope and intensity of supervisory activities.
- Oversee regulatory reviews, compliance assessments and ensure findings are clear, proportionate and evidence‑based.
- Monitor remediation of supervisory findings, escalating material concerns and recommending regulatory action.
- Review licensing and registration applications, applying consistent, risk‑based recommendations.
- Allocate supervisory resources using risk‑based methodologies and meet service standards.
- Identify sector trends, emerging risks and contribute to policy, rule and guidance development.
- Manage, coach and develop the team through performance monitoring, appraisals and training.
- Liaise with industry bodies, government agencies and international regulators, representing the Authority in meetings and conferences.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in business, finance, insurance, law or related field, or equivalent professional qualification.
- At least 7 years post‑graduate experience, with minimum 3 years in a senior role within a financial services regulator, insurer or related environment.
- Strong knowledge of insurance regulation, risk‑based supervision and the Bermuda insurance market.
- Proven ability to interpret legislation, rules and international regulatory standards.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring and performance‑management skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills for interaction with senior stakeholders.
