Actuary – Statutory Valuation & Reserving

About the role

Athene is seeking an experienced Actuary to join its valuation team. The role focuses on statutory valuation and reserving for life and annuity reinsurance business, supporting quarterly financial reporting and shaping technical methodology.

Key responsibilities

• Produce, analyze, and review quarterly statutory valuation results for life and annuity reserves.
• Serve as a technical contributor on NAIC Valuation Manual requirements, especially VM‑20 and VM‑22.
• Research and interpret evolving statutory and actuarial guidance, translating requirements into practical models and reporting processes.
• Support valuation analysis for new, complex, and cross‑border reinsurance transactions.
• Develop, execute, and review modeling processes, controls, and reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting.
• Partner with Actuarial, Finance, Risk, Investments, and other stakeholders on reporting and business initiatives.
• Communicate valuation methodologies, results, and implications to senior management and regulators.
• Provide thought leadership by staying current on emerging industry practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a quantitative field.
• Associate qualification from a recognized actuarial body (Fellow preferred).
• 6+ years of relevant experience in the life insurance industry.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects, and initiative.
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the MS Office suite.
• Experience with a programming language (any).
