AVP Actuary – Bermuda Risk Management Leader

About the role

The AVP & Actuary will serve as a strategic leader for Sammons Financial Group in Bermuda, driving the development and execution of risk management programs, regulatory filings and actuarial analysis to support long‑term growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of the Commercial Insurer’s Solvency Self‑Assessment (CISSA) filing and coordinate scenario and stress testing.
• Enhance Bermuda‑specific risk metrics, dashboards and reporting for effective oversight.
• Oversee operational risk, outsourcing risk and model risk, including validation with external parties.
• Provide challenge and assurance on Bermuda EBS outputs and regulatory submissions.
• Build relationships with Bermuda regulators (BMA) and industry peers to align with best practices.
• Guide a team of actuaries and analysts, managing multiple projects, performance and talent development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Business or Actuarial Science with strong quantitative ability.
• Minimum 10 years experience in life insurance/annuity industry, including at least 5 years in a managerial role.
• Proven leadership, communication and analytical skills, with ability to influence senior management.
• FSA or ASA designation preferred; MAAA may be required for specific roles.
• Prior experience in Bermuda and familiarity with BSCR and Economic Balance Sheet is strongly preferred.
