Head of Risk

About the role

The Head of Risk will lead the development and maintenance of the Bermuda risk management framework, ensuring that risks are identified, assessed and mitigated across the organisation. Working closely with the Board, senior leadership and regulators, this role integrates risk considerations into strategic decisions and protects the company’s assets and reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain an effective risk management framework that complies with regulatory requirements and supports business needs.
• Establish, monitor and report on risk appetites, escalating breaches according to governance processes.
• Develop and deliver the Board‑approved Annual Risk Plan and provide forward‑looking risk reporting to the Board, RCC, Executive Committee and regulators.
• Serve as the primary contact with the Bermuda Monetary Authority on risk matters and support regulatory reviews and inspections.
• Oversee the Commercial Insurers Solvency Self‑Assessment (CISSA) process, ensuring policy compliance.
• Provide independent risk oversight and challenge to the Board and Management on strategic initiatives, acquisitions and solvency assessments.
• Maintain an Emerging Risk Framework, liaise with the Operational Emerging Risk Group and report emerging risks to management.
• Enhance the Operational Resilience and Business Continuity Framework and ensure governance of related policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience working with Boards, senior management and regulators in a risk management capacity.
• Strong understanding of Bermuda regulatory expectations and solvency assessment processes.
• Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise risk assessments and integrate risk considerations into strategic decisions.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills to present risk insights to diverse stakeholders.
