Principal – Supervision (Banking, Trust & Investment)

About the role

The Bermuda Monetary Authority is seeking a Principal to lead its Supervision Department, covering Banking, Trust, Corporate Services and Investment. Reporting to an Assistant Director, the successful candidate will direct a multidisciplinary team responsible for the oversight of licensed institutions under multiple Acts.

Key responsibilities

• Lead on‑site and off‑site supervisory activities for banks, trust companies, investment firms and related entities.
• Conduct risk‑based analyses to develop annual supervisory plans and set minimum regulatory requirements.
• Monitor remediation programmes and ensure timely closure of identified issues.
• Contribute to the development of regulatory policy for the financial services sector.
• Allocate supervisory resources using appropriate risk models and meet agreed supervisory objectives.
• Prioritise staff development, performance management and training.
• Liaise with industry bodies, overseas regulators and represent the Authority at committees, seminars and conferences.
• Undertake special projects and other duties as assigned by senior management.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in business, finance, law or a related discipline, or equivalent professional qualification.
• At least seven years of post‑graduate experience, including a minimum of three years in a senior role within a financial regulator or the banking, investment or trust sectors.
• Strong understanding of financial analysis, risk management and corporate governance.
• Ability to interpret and apply legal statutes and regulatory frameworks.
• Proven leadership, mentoring and supervisory capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Professional designations such as CA, CPA, CFA, FRM, ACIS, FCI or TEP (if held).
