Associate General Counsel – Reinsurance Regulatory & Compliance

About the role

Everest Reinsurance (Bermuda) is seeking an Associate General Counsel to lead regulatory and compliance functions for its Bermuda operations. The role will be based in Hamilton and will serve as the primary legal liaison with the Bermuda Monetary Authority and other regulators.

Key responsibilities

• Provide regulatory and general business advice, acting as the main point of contact with the Bermuda Monetary Authority and other regulators.
• Oversee the transition to the BMA’s Group Supervision framework and manage all designated insurer legal requirements.
• Handle corporate filings, insurance licensing, and the creation of processes and policies for regulatory reporting.
• Ensure compliance with the Companies Act 1981, Economic Substance Act 2018, Exchange Control Act 1972, Insurance Act 1978 and related regulations.
• Negotiate, draft and review commercial, vendor, IT and other third‑party contracts.
• Serve as Chief Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer for Everest Bermuda.
• Coordinate with the Home Office Law Department and Group compliance teams to implement company policies.
• Manage customer queries, consumer complaints and privacy law compliance, including staff training.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Bermuda or a comparable jurisdiction.
• Significant experience in insurance, reinsurance or financial services regulatory matters.
• Proven track record in compliance, anti‑money‑laundering and privacy law implementation.
• Strong understanding of Bermuda statutory frameworks such as the Companies Act, Economic Substance Act and Insurance Act.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with regulators and internal stakeholders.
