Chief Compliance Officer – Bermuda

About the role

The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) will lead the firm’s compliance, regulatory, anti‑money‑laundering (AML), anti‑terrorist financing (ATF), sanctions and risk management functions. Based in Bermuda, the CCO acts as a strategic advisor to senior management and the Board, ensuring adherence to all applicable laws, regulations and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain the firm’s compliance and risk management framework.
• Serve as senior compliance officer for AML/ATF and sanctions compliance.
• Ensure compliance with Bermuda AML/ATF regulations, sanctions requirements and international standards.
• Manage relationships with regulators, including the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
• Design and maintain compliance monitoring, testing programmes and internal control reviews.
• Present compliance reports and risk updates to executive leadership and the Board.
• Provide compliance guidance on new business initiatives, products and services.
• Support client onboarding and acceptance processes and promote compliance awareness across the organisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management or a related discipline.
• Professional compliance qualification preferred (ICA, ACAMS, CAMS, CRCM or equivalent).
• Minimum 10 years of progressive compliance, risk or regulatory experience.
• At least 5 years in a senior compliance role with multi‑jurisdictional regulatory expertise.
• Experience within a law firm, trust company, fund administrator, fiduciary services provider, financial institution or regulated financial services environment.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with regulators and manage regulatory examinations.

Required skills

• Expertise in risk management frameworks and internal controls.
• Understanding of corporate governance principles and regulatory expectations for trusts and fiduciary services.
