Shift Building Operator – Laundry & Controls Engineer

About the role

The Shift Building Operator – Building Engineer (Laundry & Controls) ensures safe, efficient and reliable operation of all commercial laundry equipment and related building systems at Fairmont Southampton. Reporting to the Director of Engineering & Facility Operations, the role supports hotel operations through preventative maintenance, rapid equipment repair and close collaboration with Laundry and Engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, maintain and repair all commercial laundry equipment and associated systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance according to schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
• Diagnose and correct mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and steam‑related equipment failures.
• Support building systems (mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, pneumatic) that serve the laundry facility.
• Collaborate with Laundry Operations and other departments to ensure equipment availability and guest service.

Required profile

• Minimum three (3) years experience as a Laundry Mechanic in an industrial, hotel or resort laundry environment.
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing industrial washers, dryers, ironers, folders, spreaders and related equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, steam, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

Required skills

• Industrial laundry equipment operation and repair.
• Mechanical, electrical and pneumatic troubleshooting.
• Steam system and hot‑water reclaim equipment knowledge.
• Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) handling.
