Senior Claims Specialist – Property & Liability

About the role

The Senior Claims Specialist will manage moderate to high‑complexity property and liability claims, guiding them from coverage enquiry through legal liability assessment and settlement. The role requires independent decision‑making, stakeholder communication, and mentorship of junior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Confirm coverage by reviewing policies and supporting documents.
• Direct and monitor assignments to experts and outside counsel, achieving cost savings on complex claims.
• Analyze coverage, prepare coverage position letters, and negotiate settlements, often in litigation contexts.
• Maintain reserves, set claim recommendations, and present case updates to senior leaders and underwriters.
• Deliver technical training to colleagues and external contacts as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of claims handling or general insurance experience.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders and manage vendor relationships, including defense attorneys and forensic experts.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Required skills

• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
• Experience in negotiation, mediations, arbitrations, and monitoring trials for high‑value claims.
• Ability to interpret complex policy language and assess liability exposure.
