Shift Building Operator – Building Engineer (Laundry & Controls)

About the role

The Shift Building Operator – Building Engineer (Laundry & Controls) ensures the safe, efficient and reliable operation of all commercial laundry equipment at Fairmont Southampton. Reporting to the Director of Engineering & Facility Operations, the role supports hotel operations through preventative maintenance, rapid equipment repair and close collaboration with engineering and laundry teams.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair commercial laundry equipment and associated systems.
• Monitor industrial washers, dryers, ironers, folders, spreaders, valet and dry‑cleaning equipment.
• Maintain peripheral equipment such as steam systems, hot‑water reclaim devices, air compressors, lint‑screening devices, programmable logic controllers, variable frequency drives and starting equipment.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance in line with manufacturer recommendations.
• Respond quickly to equipment failures to minimise downtime and support guest service standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience with commercial laundry machinery and associated control systems.
• Ability to work shift patterns in a resort environment.
• Strong focus on safety, reliability and guest service.
• Effective teamwork and communication with engineering and laundry staff.
