Tax Insurance Manager - Bermuda

About the role

EY's Financial Services Organization (FSO) is looking for a Manager to join its Insurance Tax practice in Bermuda. The BBC (Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands) is a market segment of the FSO covering the financial services marketplace, aligned to asset management, banking and capital markets and insurance. The manager leads tax compliance and advisory work for insurance clients and develops tax technical knowledge.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and lead tax compliance and advisory work for clients across the BBC and the global network
• Work on key client issues in domestic federal, international and state and local taxation, implementing tax strategies aligned with client business objectives
• Manage tax compliance accounts for general insurers, reinsurance and captive insurance companies
• Handle relationship management: build lasting professional relations with key client employees, manage staffing and economics of engagements, and analyse engagement results to deliver exceptional client service

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a business discipline with at least 8 years of relevant tax experience, or an advanced degree in tax or law with at least 7 years
• CPA (or equivalent internationally recognized accounting designation), Enrolled Agent and/or LLM certification, or the ability to obtain one of them within one year of employment
• Ideally: SEC experience, proven experience managing teams and client relationships

Required skills

• Strong technical knowledge of insurance tax
• Ability to teach or assist with firm in-house trainings
• Strong knowledge of ASC 740 and SSAP 101
• Experience supporting income tax audits and providing income tax services to insurance companies and C corporations
• Able to identify key tax technical issues and raise the right questions before work goes to partners or senior managers
