VP Senior Underwriter – Large Commercial Property

About the role

AXA XL is looking for a Vice President, Senior Underwriter to lead Large Commercial Property underwriting in Bermuda. The role is responsible for delivering profitable underwriting services, supporting business planning, and maintaining strong broker and client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite and service a renewal book while generating new business in line with unit goals.
• Develop and manage underwriting strategies for renewals and target accounts.
• Represent AXA XL in meetings with senior Fortune 500 clients and broker executives.
• Calculate appropriate risk premiums and exercise independent judgment in risk evaluation.
• Negotiate with producers within delegated authority to achieve profit objectives.
• Build and enhance relationships with brokers, identifying new distribution opportunities.
• Monitor financial exposure and premium income against set limits.
• Maintain awareness of claims, support settlement input, and ensure adequate reinsurance coverage.
• Identify and drive new product development opportunities and cross‑market with other AXA XL lines.
• Collaborate with underwriting assistants and management to foster a team environment.

Required profile

• Significant senior‑level experience in property underwriting, particularly large commercial risks.
• Strong analytical judgment and ability to assess complex risk profiles.
• Proven track record of managing broker and client relationships at senior levels.
• Knowledge of reinsurance practices and underwriting guidelines.
• Experience supporting business planning, forecasting, and financial monitoring.
